Help (van driving 1st October)

This has become moot.

I had been planning to move house on the 1st October. Today is the last day on which I could give notice on my existing flat and not pay for a needless overlap.

I had arranged for a friend of mine to drive a van. Over the last few weeks we have had an interaction like this;

"If you pick a definite date I'll be able to stop work sending me away."
"OK - 1st October."
"Work are sending me away" - this last _last night_.

Therefore if someone can _definitely_ be available on the 1st October I would be estatically happy. The journey's about 20 miles and would possibly be 2 tripsworth of a 3.5 tonner. I can arrange people to load and unload and will do as much van hire work as possible, and will buy big dinner for whoever does it.

Anyone?

I'm not definite, but I'm pretty likely and I've driven 3.5t vans plenty of times before.

Hmmmm, I suppose you don't cover airfare too.

In general, be aware that most van hire places insist you've held a full driving licence for three years before they will allow you to hire a van.

I could be (and before you comment on my lack of recent driving, I am doing some this weekend, plus I am driving up to Stoke and back the weekend of the 16th, so I will be practiced). HOWEVER although I have had a licence for more than three years I might not be eligable because I am under 25 or they might charge you more because of that.

So basically, put me down as a last resort.

That's a weekend? 50/50 that I'm free. Haven't driven one of those before, and am constitutionally nervous, but could probably manage it. Put me down as a backstop if you can't round up anyone else.

1st October is a Sunday.

I can definitely do it should you want to, though be warned the only 3.5T van driving experience I will have had is from my own move this Tuesday (over 2 days I'm shifting 3 people up to London, including one from Poole and one from Basildon)! Naturally, someone with a little more experience might be a better choice, but the offer is there... and I'll try and keep that day free as a "just in case" if you like.

I'm also an over 25er, who passed his driving test 10 years ago, so I have category C1 entitlement (not that you need it for a 3.5T) - in principle this means I am licensed to drive up to a 7.5T, but I've never driven anything like that size of van before...

Put me on your list as well if you like. I will have just moved into my new house the week before, I think, and I will be starting work at the new job the day after, but the Sunday is free.

I have had a licence for aaages, am sufficiently elderly, and have driven 3.5 tonners a lot. Avoid Merc Sprinters if you can, they have poor suspension and wallow like pigs.
