Turns out the reason I've been feeling worse and worse all weekend is... tonsilitis.

Back on the antibiotics and painkillers - the only ray of joy is that alcohol is not contraindicated with amoxycillin.

Bleugh. It's really going around lately - the doctor claimed to me that it's not especially catching, but I seem to know an alarming number of people (including Jif and myself) who've been laid low with it recently.

They tell me I should be better 48 hours after starting the antibiotics. I hope this is true because at the moment I can only swallow with some difficulty which means I can't eat or sleep (because I'm also producing a lot of spit and it all has to come out...)

Alcohol isn't contraindicated with amoxycillin, but be prepared to get drunker faster, and feel like absolute hell the next day.

You're really having a crappy time of it this year, aren't you?

If you can stand it, gargle with TCP mixed with mouthwash or water - it'll numb the throat and stop any secondary infections. Salt water is good too for soothing the irritation.

Given that I have barely eaten I shall have to be verra careful with Mister Booze anyway.

They've been having me gargle with Corsodyl which at least reassures me that I have not lost my sense of taste by being unutterably vile.
