Wet today, isn't it?
Apologies to those who've heard this tale of woe already.
Yesterday I foolishly decided to go to work up the back roads, rather than by my usual route. This was daft of me, since one of the many reasons I gave up on that route is that there's a road on it that's an effective choke point and prone to flooding in wet weather.
Now when I get there, there's a sign saying "ROAD FLOODED, SEEK ALTERNATIVE ROUTE". But the puddle in front of me doesn't look so deep, and there is no practical alternative route. So I press on, and indeed it's about 30 feet long and about 3" deep, so I get through it with dry boots and feel dead smug.
The _next_ puddle is about 100 yards of road nearly all of which is a foot under. So I get very wet feet indeed; it very nearly goes over the wheel hubs. Luckily my panniers are (as of Monday) completely waterproof Ortliebs rather than my old completely unwaterproof Karrimors, but all in all this is not a pleasant experience.
Just past that (with a few little puddles to navigate, but nothing significant) I met some people in a little car coming the other way. I did warn them, but they didn't listen; I wonder if they drowned it...
