This came out of discussion IRL. Edited to say; not your own, if you've got any!

Ah! Suddenly the court case makes sense...

[identity profile] cartesiandaemon.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't say "poit" -- is it possible that sounds different to you than me?

Re: Ah! Suddenly the court case makes sense...

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Like "point" but without an 'n' in. Nabiki does it to Ranma in the first volume...

Re: Ah! Suddenly the court case makes sense...

[identity profile] valkyriekaren.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
'Poit' is the noise that things make when they disappear in the Cerebus graphic novels. It's also the noise that [livejournal.com profile] grahamb used to insist my nose made when poked. Breasts went 'Haaaaaal-lelujah!' (in the style of the Hallelujah Chorus).

I tend to find that people object to having their breasts abruptly squeezed, sound-effects or no.

Re: Ah! Suddenly the court case makes sense...

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, in a context where doing so is not automatically a faux pas.

Re: Ah! Suddenly the court case makes sense...

[identity profile] valkyriekaren.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Even so... I've normally found a less aggressive approach pays dividends. But maybe you date different sorts of women.

Re: Ah! Suddenly the court case makes sense...

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh... generally the dividends have been paid at this point, as it were.

Aah, manga? Suddenly the court case makes sense... :)

[identity profile] cartesiandaemon.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
> Point

Yes, that's how I was going to ask if it was.

Hmmm. I would have thought "bwort" or "bweep" or "pink" depending on size. And probably sounding either electronic, or wind-instrument-y...? I must investigate further.

In the original it's ぷにぷに [puni puni], incidentally.

Re: Ah! Suddenly the court case makes sense...

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
That seems plausible.

No, really. I went and looked in my Ranma vol 1 :-)

(Akane with long hair looks kind of weird looked back on from 30 odd volumes of short-haired Akane...)

Oh, I believe you; Puni Puni Poemi's got "puni puni" in.

[identity profile] davefish.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't say poit poit.
A deeper honking perhaps[1].

Having a naturally large-breasted wife but a naturally small-breasted girlfriend, I am puerilely delighted by the increase in breast size that comes with the pregnancy of the latter.

H00ray for b00bies!

Pregnant breasts are great! Breastfeeding breasts continue the fabulous trend :)

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
But do they go poit poit? Shamelessly enquiring minds want to know.

I don't think so, but Charles has made some very amusing noises getting his face on and off them. More farty than poity.

[identity profile] nmg.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Seconded on that - the [livejournal.com profile] garklet is already very capable of eliciting such noises from [livejournal.com profile] ias. I think that I might get walloped if I tried to squeeze her breasts at the moment, sound effects or not...

This is surely inadvisable for spectacle-wearers.

[identity profile] siani-hedgehog.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
only the small, perky kind. big ones are for sticking your face between and making motorboat noises.

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Y'know, there's no rule against doing both things...

[identity profile] siani-hedgehog.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
but big ones don't go "poit". they go "a-oooo-ga". and small ones aren't as effective for motorboat noises.

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Clearly we need to round up as many as we can for research purposes.

[identity profile] siani-hedgehog.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
this is why whitby was created.

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
So kind of you to assist in this project at Laughtons (although, not to be constantly whining, wait until I'm around next time. :-)

[identity profile] siani-hedgehog.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
always happy to oblige. :P i'm still curious about why i had my tits out at laughton's, though.

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, are we looking for a more complex answer than "boozahol" here?

[identity profile] madaussie.livejournal.com 2006-12-12 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
mm there is a good pub in whitby just over the bridge ;)

gerald_duck: (Oh really?)

[personal profile] gerald_duck 2006-12-11 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Squeeze, yes; "poit poit", wtf?

[identity profile] lizzip.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Since when?!

You're gay.

[identity profile] lizzip.livejournal.com 2006-12-12 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
No, seriously. Have I corrupted you? You didn't mention "a natural urge" when we first met! I'd got the impression that that wasn't just for the, well, obvious reasons.

I used to be breasts-curious.

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2006-12-13 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Not enough to end up without "ready access"; I've only got one of those.

[identity profile] kludge.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)

No editorials in the quiz, Damerell.

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're "poit poit"ing your own I shall be very surprised.

[identity profile] kludge.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)

When faced with breasts, do you have a natural urge to squeeze them and make "poit poit" noises?

...I maintain that the phrase "natural urge" may constitute some kind of spin in the question.

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
You may read "Satanic unnatural urge" if you like.

Squeezing yes, but not the noises. It's hard to make clear consonants with something in the way.

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I must admit, to my shame, I just figured this out.

[identity profile] hairyears.livejournal.com 2006-12-11 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Poit Poit?

I had always imagined the asthmatic honking of a prewar car horn. It's a round thing and you squeeze it, I dunno... With pert breasts, there's the tinny sound of the horn on a Mini Cooper.

Some of the more uplifting (nay... overwhelming) specimens on display at B-Movie make the stately and majestic sound of an Ocean Liner's foghorn.

I occasionally get the urge to twiddle them and go "Stockholm-Motala, Stockholm-Motala" in a silly voice. Just as if you were tuning a radio in Sweden, ca 1930.

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2006-12-12 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
