[livejournal.com profile] ceb and I were in Trafalgar Square last night. She has never been before. Was it wrong to turn to her as we passed Nelson's Column and say "Again, but with tongues, Hardy"?

PS: book must be printed on acid-free paper, otherwise will disintegrate before reader finished.

This is why I love you.

Book must be exported to the US by sea not air, lest it cause the plane to plummet from the sky.

Book must be printed on microfilm, as a paper volume would form a black hole.

Pope must exit Vatican to reach ending.

You have extreme difficulty lifting the brick. Continue? [ynq] (q)
a - a brick. You can barely move a handspan with this load!

ROFL!

Don't get the book comment, though. Context?

He said "kismet" (fate) not "kiss me"!

[identity profile] stephdairy.livejournal.com 2007-10-12 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Not a theory supported by any contemporary evidence, and the OED doesn't know of any uses in English of kismet to mean fate/destiny until 1849. Nelson died in 1805.

Words come into English from the Navy, not the other way 'round!

And no, [livejournal.com profile] damerell, you weren't wrong at all.

(Of course.)

And in a totally manly way, to boot!

[identity profile] gaius-octavian.livejournal.com 2007-10-12 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely! I mean, they were both in the Navy!

Very. But we all know that you are a very wrong person anyway.

A generation of children is growing up never having fed the pigeons in Trafalgar Square.
