"Gee, Utena-sama, what do you want to do tonight?"

"The same thing we do every night, Anthy - try to revolutionise the world!"

Thank you. That was excellent. :)

It may be relevant that we watched 39 episodes, the movie, and as much of the musical as we could stomach last weekend.

Next time we watch all of Utena one weekend, we should ask you, then?

[identity profile] lupie-stardust.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, because it is my favourite thing ever.

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. _Bubblegum Crisis_ here, I suspect.

[identity profile] lupie-stardust.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I never properly got into that, actually! It's something from which I loved the music, but never managed to... you know, identify with to precisely the same extent. I should give it another go.

Well, when I was first a fanboy, the old Anime Projects _BGC_ VHS was almost the only thing released in the UK that wasn't dubbed tentacles-and-violence from Mangle Video. Really liking _BGC_, I suspect, is as much a marker of a British fan of a certain vintage as owning two multistandard VCRs.

I second that notion about Anime Projects. I've still got the original BGC VHS tapes that bankrupted me!

Have you seen FLCL? Tell me you've seen FLCL...

[identity profile] ceb.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Utterly mad anime, I think you'd love it....

What the fuck, that sounds deranged! I *have* to locate it!

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2009-02-18 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you could, eg, borrow my copies, come to mine and watch it, etc. I imagine Doktor B would not object to seeing it again.

Fri 27th Feb? Clare and Peter are up for it.

Potentially - I shall consult the oracle~

Let us know, kind of thing. I imagine we could accomodate Thomas.

More clearly... Evangelion is Gainax-depressive; Gunbuster is Gainax-manic. Re Cutey Honey is Gainax-manic. Later KareKano is Gainax-depressive, I guess. FLCL is Gainax-manic.
