I've been reading early _Questionable Content_. The author, Jeph Jacques, must have _really_ liked Scary-go-Round or Bobbins - all the early strips have a very similar speech style. The way no-one uses contractions helps.

Also, woeful failure of Bechdel test.

Bechdel test> Hardly fair, none of the male characters talk about anything but sex/relationships/people they fancy either!

Two of them talk about Pintsize in #21, and there's just economic moaning in #37. #82 before I can find two women talking about something that isn't a man and, er, that's the lot in the first 100.

Admittedly it's been about a year since I last revisited the early strips, but I thought it was just Faye who spoke without contractions -- it's explained later, though. Don't make me go back and check or I'll lose a day rereading it and being all emo! :-/

There's a plot point made of her doing it, but they all do it a bit, and more generally they all speak in a stilted style reminiscent of Bobbins.
