Another thing I have learned in the course of this project

Do not got to #london.pm for advice, for you will have a conversation like this:

You: Do you mind if I ask a daft question?
$them: About what?
You: Perl.
$them: Just ask your question, already.
You: start to ask a question about Perl.
$them: Do you think this is a help channel? Have you tried #perl-help? [A series of remarks follow in which they _literally_ violate Godwin's Law.]
&You::despair;

ETA: I shall instead ask [personal profile] diziet who, so far, when I have been stuck on programming projects, has been a tower of strength.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but - uh, really? The further into the series of remarks you got, the less likely they were to invoke nazis?

...Oh who am I kidding, I love sounding like a jerk.

But not, apparently, as much as that guy does. Apparently he is unable to read the london.pm homepage, either: "We are a group of people dedicated to the encouragement of all things to do with the Perl programming language in London, U.K.. This involves helping each other, discussing topics, sharing information and the occasional drink and mention of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. "

There really is no excuse for that sort of behaviour. Hope you find your answer in the next place you look for it...
