damerell at 04:03pm on 12/07/2010I discovered this weekend that you can transport Ikea Billy bookcases (ie, about as big as freestanding flatpack bookcases get) by bicycle. We chained together my Y-Frame Large and Small trailers, put towels on the trailers, and roped the bookcase down.
On the third one I even had the confidence to cycle with it (at about 6mph). It probably helps to have the loading box folded up on the rear trailer, so the bookcase doesn't want to slide off backwards.
Actually it was way easier cycling on the road than walking on the pavement. Pedestrians (and those foolish enough to cycle on shared-use paths) get fobbed off with a really crappy surface to do it on.
