damerell: (reading)

[personal profile] auntsarentgents and I just finished season 3 of Game of Thrones. I have read the books; she has not. I was aware there was a flood of outrage over the ending of season 3, and had come to understand it was because some significant plot point had been changed.

... but it's not; it's because the Red Wedding is basically true to the books and apparently most of the TV audience hadn't read them. As the Eye might put it, "Author notorious for killing major characters kills major characters."

This actually worked out rather well because right up until the overblown Danaerys-as-Messiah ending, I was not quite sure what was going to happen, waiting for the plot change that didn't exist. I had rather feared that it might be that the Red Wedding was toned down significantly, in particular... if you've read the later books, a possibility concerning character survival will occur to you which you will please not put in the comments.
