I've come up with a silly idea; the "boring AU" fanfic.

I'll go first. In the first episode of Boring Cabin Pressure, there is a delay on arrival at Fitton, but since the aircraft is not unusually heavy with high fuel consumption and Martin's meticulous walkround meant the cargo hold heating was turned off, there is plenty of time to hold.

Martin has no reason to feel his authority is being undermined by Douglas's vast experience, but instead relishes the opportunity to learn from it and to make use of it - as in the next episode, where Douglas's tact and diplomacy deals with an angry smoker.

MJN continues to turn a modest profit and can easily afford insurance against things like bird strikes, not that they ever suffer so dramatic a problem.

The series ends with a heartwarming episode where a routine inspection of the wiring conduits reveals that Carolyn's ex-husband has hidden filthy magazines in them; everyone has a laugh at his expense.

Boring ST:NG opens with the Enterprise being called to a system whose star is suspected of being on the brink of going supernova. Data makes a series of careful observations of stellar abundances and outflow variability, and concludes that the system is likely to remain in its current state for at least another million years.

In a later episode, Tasha Yar complains of a curious malfunction in the holodeck, interfering with her martial arts practice. Barclay investigates, and identifies a bug associated with a recent software update. He fixes it, and Picard announces to a relieved crew that the holodeck is available again.

The dramatic season finale involves Riker returning from an interspecies diplomatic conference and displaying symptoms of a mysterious illness. Dr Crusher keeps him under observation in the medbay for several days, and diagnoses a novel strain of influenza. Thanks to their dutiful observance of quarantine protocol, no one else is infected and Riker makes a full recovery.

Not bad! And there must be one where an ancient and powerful alien energy being turns up, takes a look at the Enterprise, notes down in its lab book what the little bits of meat are doing this century, and goes away again.

Boring Neon Genesis Evangelion:

Second Impact was a titanic cockup, rather than step one in a sinister secret society's conspiracy to become God. NERV has qualified psychotherapists on staff and a carefully managed culture of responsible disclosure. Misato Katsuragi's overindulgence in alcohol as a coping strategy was spotted and quickly addressed before it ballooned to the levels depicted in the canon series.

And, of course, while NERV is fully prepared for the hypothetical Angel threat, it simply fails to manifest, a relief to all concerned. ;-)

The Avengers all get together for Pepper's birthday.

Tony remembers to get her a present.

No aliens attack.

Everyone has a nice cup of tea, a party hat and a balloon.

Banner briefly loses his temper when someone pops half a dozen balloons right next to him, but controls himself without difficulty.

Everyone has a slice of birthday cake, served up by one of the robots.
