47 Mission of Gravity Hal Clement (I think, I've read quite a bit of Clement)

It's the one set on the planet Mesklin with the incredibly high surface gravity (though spinning so fast that the equator is just about tolerable for humans), populated by sentient centipedes. Basic plot - the Mesklinites have to go to a pole to retrieve a McGuffin to help save a stranded human youth.
