Are Shinichi "Nabeshin" Watanabe (Excel Saga &c) and Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop) the same person or not? W. says they are - but I keep reading that they're not.

I'm starting to suspect it's an Iain Banks / Iain M. Banks job.

This animeondvd article seems to agree with you. There are decent photos of the Cowboy Bebop guy but I couldn't find anything better than these rather indistinct shots of Nabeshin...

And W. says Prairie has seen Nabeshin talk about Bebop, so I guess that's pretty definite.
