I've heard some incredible talent with buskers and in those cases never mind giving money. Its the annoyingly talentless creatures that lurk and hassle you for money that bug me (No I dont mean the government *grin*). I dont think I did you poll - it's been a very busy week.
Some buskers have lots of talent and brighten up the area they are in. Some play along to overloud prerecorded music where most of the talent is in the prerecording. Some buskers lift my spirits so I don't worry about the time. Some buskers block the movement of people and prevent me from getting where I want to go. It all depends.
Of course, David deliberately omits the context (of the Carling licensed busking scheme on the London Underground), which addresses issues of poor quality and of obstruction.
Uhhh... anyone who's used the Tube for the last several years is familiar with it. And, if it addresses issues of poor quality, it certainly does it very stealthily; if it addresses issues of obstruction, it does so in some magic way where almost anyone playing silly buggers in a tunnel underground isn't prone to become an obstruction when lots of people try to use it.
Indeed so, but I fear he was right about the 'weird' bit for many of us though!
I think I have an anti-busker filter built in, as I just zone them out, typically (unless they are playing really fantasticallygoodinterestingstuff). Unless they are tube-based accordion players, in which case I have to fight back the urge to kill.
Of course, your poll specified "buskers ON THE TUBE", and they annoy me quite a lot, although they are relatively infrequent (not that I use the tube much either). It's just occurred to me that you might also have been referring to buskers AT TUBE STATIONS, who I generally like a lot, but will only give money to if exceptionally talented, doing something original, or if they've lifted my mood considerably. And I have change handy.
The licenced busking scheme has meant more buskers of better quality, and I approve.
Should I change my poll answers to reflect the tube stations angle?
Sadly I think you must, because I do mean on Tube stations. I am wondering; since the scheme has made it clear that it is practical to enforce the restrictions on unlicenced buskers, why did we respond to a nuisance by permitting it? And this led to the poll to determine if it is felt to be a nuisance.
Personally, I'd like no buskers of any quality. If I want music I'll go to a gig. I go to Tube stations to catch Tube trains and anyone on the station who isn't doing that or working so that people can do that should get the hell out the way.

(Though this is getting better, it seems to take me a few years per individual...)
