I have a cunning birthday plan. My actual birthday is the 27th November; however the 26th is a Sunday.

I will be in the Pembury from about 3pm on the 26th. Bring beer and pretzels games if you feel like them. There may have to be Family Business (glug!)

Drop me a comment if you feel like coming.

*thinks*

*looks at diary*

I'm afraid that is the week that I am working/going to college six days out of seven, plus at that point it will be only a week until my exams.

Basically it comes down to how much I am panicing more work I feel I have to do.

:(

I'd go to DaveyFest were I not on the wrong continent. You and all of the other British people could explain Dragonforce to me.

If you have to ask, lady, you'll never understand. Mind you, I had to ask.

I won't be able to join you, but I've got to say thank-you for indirectly pointing me towards Looney Labs games (via the Pembury's games page) - they look like fun! :-) Unfortunately the kids won't be old enough to join in with them for a couple of years yet, but I'm sure I could get some practice in... Now, where'd I put that Amazon wish-list...

Fluxx is fun beer-and-pretzels - Chrononauts is too much of a crapshoot for the effort involved, IMAO.

Ooh - that is tempting. I've been failing to catch up with Stevee for way too long.

I intend to be there... odds on dragging you back to Cambridge afterwards?

Possibly not, it being a Sunday night.

shame. But, you know, whatever.

I may or may not be there, I'm a bugger for not planning things on my Sunday as it's after my last shift and I never know if I'm going to be alive or not.

C'mon, I'm trying to collect the whole set together. :-)

:p Good to know I'm wanted just to make up the numbers!

I'll see how I'm feeling after my shift, yesterday for example I got in from work and crashed out all afternoon, got up and watched the new Simpsons on telly then crashed out again until this morning.

Unknown - I shall speak to the Mrs., as that is the exact date of our 6-month wedding anniversary (aaawww, how cute etc) so we may have Other Plans™.

What, no birthday present?

Very possibly, especially given I should be in London the night before anyway....

Ah, I was going to ask you - have you sorted out crash space for the 25th?

posted by [identity profile] ceb.livejournal.com at 09:51pm on 03/11/2006
Not yet. Being flustered and disorganised, etc.

Well, space is here if you want it. :)

I will probably need crash space for Ian too. Would that be OK/do you think your spare bed would hold up to two of us? ;-)

Yep - Ian staying is fine.

Should be OK as long you not planning to jump up and down on it ;) LandLady might not like me any more if it got broken...

Cool, thanks. I'll let you know, then; we're still slightly disorganised....

Sounds like a plan. I should imagine roger will be up for it, if no disasters or work related wierd shit occurs (unlikely, but I have one of those unpredictable 8 days a week jobs, so not impossible)

Been trying to send you email, but chiark doesn't seem to be listening. Send me mail from an alternate address? username at livejournal will work for me if you don't know my usual address.

Curious - I see delivery attempts being 4xx on the 13th over one hour, but neither a rejection or a successful delivery attempt. Wonder why it gave up?

It ought to be OK now.

posted by [identity profile] pir.livejournal.com at 01:39pm on 15/11/2006
The original error was a timeout, then more recently "Too busy (431/224 2024) [Irritated], try later" which is still going on...

posted by [identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com at 01:44pm on 15/11/2006
Last I've got is a delivery attempt at 2006-11-13 16:56:43 GMT, with the first such at 2006-11-13 15:53:47 GMT. Sure your end's retrying?

david.damerell@oracle.com works too...

posted by [identity profile] pir.livejournal.com at 01:54pm on 15/11/2006
Yes, I'm sure. I just manually tried it (times in GMT-5):

2006-11-15 08:38:26 1Gje71-0004PX-Dt == damerell@chiark.greenend.org.uk R=lookup
host T=remote_smtp defer (0): SMTP error from remote mailer after initial connection: host mx-relay.chiark.greenend.org.uk [193.201.200.170]: 421 chiark.greenend.org.uk Too busy (235/228 1141) [Irritated], try later

Trying right now it's timing out again. Network to chiark seems clean and fast, a connection to port 22 responds quickly but port 25 just isn't happy. With a smaple size of 5, connecting from the UK seems to be fine but from several places in the US not.

I'll bounce the message to that address.

That's very interesting - I've just found something else in the logs. I'll try and get it sorted out at this end - it's not working right, I think.

It's probably academic now, but the problems at this end should be corrected. Thanks for alerting us.

Ah, lookie there. Manual retry gets that mail through now, glad it's fixed.

Sorry about that.

Incidentally, amid all this UNIX admin theatre, I should say - sorry, I have a prior engagement. :-(
