We just attempted to repair [livejournal.com profile] kludge's bike - he broke a crank in half with his awesome lard^W power.

Nothing too hard except one bottom bracket cup was stuck. Very stuck. Penetrating oil and heat the frame up and STOMP on the spanner stuck.

That sucker came off then, but I learned a valuable lesson - don't tidy up the heat gun until it cools off.

I have a bag of frozen prawns stuck to my arm now.

Other than that it went OK. I have a torque wrench!

That's Ok then.

An important lesson in life is also don't eat the contents of a freezer as you are defrosting it. Especially if you can only identify it as 'meat'.

Well, I got to work without the bottom bracket exploding or either of my cranks or pedals falling off comically, so you can at least rest safe in the knowledge that your arm wasn't burnt in vain!
