The effort wasn't entirely wasted - Sarah on a bicycle is significantly faster than Sarah walking, and since only one gear-combination was really working we couldn't have gone much faster than we did anyway.

Her bike's been fixed now, apparantly.

I hoped it wouldn't take much more than popping the cassette off and extracting all the debris.
