Sarah and I watched Serenity last night, the Firefly movie. I'd seen it before, but I'm struck now by how incredibly teal-and-orange it is. But also... how small is space?
"We have to go through Reaver territory. The good news is, it's about the size of Hyde Park. The bad news is, we can't just go around it for some reason." And when they emerge from it into a naval battle, apparently firing commences at a range of about fifty yards. Seriously, Joss? Nelson's navy had longer ranged guns than that!

Be fair on the sizes, it is cowboys in space after all. You wouldn't have a showdown at 10 parsecs.
