Flash player... with "McAfee security scan", which I assume is scareware. Dear Adobe, isn't your entire strategy to make Flash so dominant that HTML5 doesn't take off? Why risk that ship for a ha'porth of tar?
Worse yet, Java updates with the Ask toolbar. Is it really, honestly, worth the microscopic impact on Oracle's bottom line to get a reputation for sneaking borderline malware onto people's computers (other than Oracle Financials, ha ha). I assumed that junk was because Sun was desperate for cash and Oracle would rightly put a stop to it after the takeover.
They aren't the only ones... and that even makes the strategy less effective, in that I assume any piece of Windows software from a large corporate will at some point ask me about sneaking some junkware on, and am alert to it. Bah.
