Does anyone at Google even read abuse reports anymore? I'm getting really fed up of ending up getting email from random Google groups. I forget which decade the rest of the world figured out not subscribing people without checking they wanted it, but it wasn't this one. Or the last one. Grumble.

Google don't do 'people', they do algorithms and metrics: they totally do not give a toss about any aspect of the user experience that falls outside the metrics of their interface design.

I do not doubt that this problem will get worse.

It can be a useful option sometimes (for those who don't abuse it). A couple of times I've needed to add someone to a group, and that person is really disorganised and keeps forgetting to accept the invitation. Adding him manually (and he does actually want to get the stuff) gets round this problem.
