I have summer cycling gloves. I have been annoying people one at a time by telling them this, so I'm going to save time by annoying you all at once.

You see, these are not made with actual cow on the palms any more. Instead there's some synthetic leather crap which, while excellent for punting gloves, is not nearly so comfortable as leather. However, it turns out that some company in Pakistan makes proper cow-flavoured gloves, and - via the Rivendell Bicycle Works in California - I have a pair.

They have proper towelling on the thumb to blow your nose on and everything. I'm ever so pleased.

Also, anyone who's read Weber's Honor Harrington books - in between vomiting up your skull at his politics, has it struck you that she is a Mary-Sue?

Yay cycling gloves! I'm glad to see someone else uses them for nose-blowing, too. I thought that was just me.

That's what the towelling on proper summer gloves is for. Normally I carry a hankie in my jersey's back pocket, but there are times - especially on the tandem - where I don't really want to be flapping one hand around behind my back.

I absolutely cannot imagine leather being more comfortable than anything.

...OK, not anything. I'd rather have leather cycling gloves than gloves made out of syringe needles and sandpaper, but...

I've obviously just got odd skin - I find leather sofas and car seats uncomfortable compared to fabric ones, too.

The inside isn't the smooth and sometimes sticky surface of leather seats, but a rough absorbent surface; the main point is it's easy to do padding well with leather.

You didn't bore me with tales of the gloves at Dead and Buried...

Thank you. I fear my conversation was a bit random, though - my sinuses are still a bit clogged, and so my hearing is erratic.

... oh, so that's your LJ username. :-)

Yes, it had struck me. Though I don't give a f(*& about the politics, space ships go BOOM!

I like the BOOM bits. If he'd taken another leaf out of C.S. Forester's book and written an apolitical protagonist I'd be a lot happier.

I remember you were down Reding way or something. I've got a mate (bike crazy) out from Aus who's just got a job in Swindon and needs stirring up occasionally. You near enough to do some of it for me?

Swindon _is_ about 50 miles from Bracknell... what sort of thing did you have in mind?

Why, thank you. As I say, Swindon is a fair step from Bracknell, but if we happen to be at London.pm or something (and I know who it is)...
